My Experience at the Greensprings Montessori Centre I am very delighted to share my experience at the Greensprings Montessori Centre which I can describe as being awesome and inspiring! We started the programme January 2016 and I had a very high expectation and determination to achieve the best in the course of the programme. The facilitators displayed excellent understanding of the Montessori concepts. The different curriculum areas were adequately and proficiently handled. I gained a lot from every discussion time we had, new things were discovered and explored. The programme gave a platform for interaction with colleagues, sharing ideas with one another and learning together. I found making folders interesting and challenging. The process and products are very enjoyable but highly time demanding coupled with the normal daily work that we do. I now feel more motivated and well equipped to facilitate and teach Montessori lessons anywhere and anytime I have the opportunity. I will like to appreciate the GMC Programme Director Mr. Abraham Ogunkanmbi for the excellent and impeccable delivery of the programme this year, indeed he inspired us so much. I also appreciate Mrs. Alarape, Mrs. Awofeso, Mrs. Badejo and Mr. Uwagboe for all the encouragements, advice and immeasurable efforts.

GMC, I can’t put a price on it! No price tag for what the Greensprings Montessori course gives you…honestly, if I may name my experience in one word, “Masterpiece!” It really has been a transforming journey for me as an adult learner and class representative. Thanks to the calm and peaceful disposition of our facilitators, also cheery aura of my classmates who made me always feel, Bola, You Can! This course makes all my experience at teaching job unique, different and special as it has been a wonderful addition to my knowledge of Education. The modules are presented in a clear, sequential way with specific objectives and timelines. The assignments, project work and exam give you the opportunity to read books, selected texts, website, watch videos which sharpens your every day skills. I have no regrets at all though it has been a rigorous exercise but I have grown – it has been deeply revealing and meaningful to me as a teacher and a human being. In my two cents, everyone planning to teach at any level should be exposed to the Montessori way!

Greensprings Montessori Centre early childhood program has helped me develop a high degree of self-confidence and enthusiasm for teaching and learning. The program opened my eyes to learning how to learn and helping the child to also learn how to learn. The Montessori methodology also gave me the opportunity to discover how best to help the children succeed and develop in totality. The program is interesting and challenging at the same time but with the ever-supportive faculty members, I was able to achieve excellence. “If there is no struggle there is no progress”. As a result of the various leaning processes I faced during my course of study at GMC, I have become stronger, more refined and better committed as a Montessori directress and i am proud to be an ambassador of Greensprings Montessori centre. Big thanks to all the faculty members who believed in me and helped me to achieve excellence.

The journey started on the 13th February 2016 and it has been tedious all the way, no more Saturday pleasures, social life for the period it lasted. The long hours lectures, assignments, folder making and practicum seem like it would continue forever but behold it was fun all the way. The understanding and knowledge gained through this program cannot be quantified. Now I can boldly say I know the theories guiding the Montessori education, as well as the material presentation more than ever before. I would like to say thank you to the Program director- Mr Ogunkanmbi and his team for their guidance and patience because it is not easy to teach adults. Thank you so much for all the efforts you put in place to make it easier for us and for all your sacrifices especially your social lives. God bless and reward you all.

My testimony as a graduate of Greensprings Montessori Centre For years I have been in the Montessori setting teaching children 18 months to 2 years. During these years we have had hands-on activities and other exercises that have helped the children developed. As a as teacher, I thought “how do I continue to improve myself?” So when the Greensprings Montessori Centre (GMC) was opened, I signed up but never knew what I was going into. We started the various courses and I took the lectures seriously because what I had then was an online certification where hands-on activities was not possible and also the lecturers were not physically present for a one-on-one collaboration. So I was serious and dedicated. I was open-minded and ready to learn. I forgot all that I knew before then and I began to put to practice the knowledge and skills learnt. Though it wasn’t easy leaving my comfort zone to attend lectures on Saturdays and to spend most of my evenings working on assignments and folders but it was worth the while. I have been so enriched by the course content. My eye has been opened to full knowledge about Child psychology, developmental stages; how to observe, assess and draw conclusions. The child’s nutrition and how it affects him, how music can help in educating a child and the opportunities for hands-on exercises through which I have become a lot more confident. The hands-on activities have made everlasting impressions in my memory, just like Maria Montessori said, “the hand is the instrument of man’s intelligence”. Again, interpersonal relationship with my fellow students was established. It has helped me to relate with others and know that we are special and unique and set in our own ways. GMC gave me focus on what I wanted with my children in class and how to achieve this. I am proud to say I am a full-fledged Montessorian and will do well in any Montessori setting.

To sum up my whole experience in just one sentence – “It was the best rollercoaster ride of my entire life, filled with ups and downs, twists and turns, loop the loops and even some emergency breaking along the way, incredible and wonderful experience never to be forgotten.” The journey to GMC on Saturdays was tiring and sometimes dangerous however that was all forgotten when I stepped into the classroom into the warm embrace of my fellow students and our excellent instructors. I got to learn new skills, work with the Montessori materials, cut out a duck, stick beads onto cardboard letters, develop a love of mathematics, follow the child, see a classroom from the inside, experience the Montessori way of life and make connections that will last a lifetime. I became a “Parent Student Teacher of Greensprings and was fortunate to get to do most of my teaching practise in Pink Badejo (2015-2016 set) where I was greeted every morning with “Mrs Orinya” followed by a group bear hug that put a smile on my face every day. I learned things that you cannot find in any textbook. Thanks to the wonderful Pre-school teachers in Lekki Campus, especially Mrs Badejo and Mrs Bardru. The highlight of the course was presenting a Montessori material to Mr Ogunkambi, (which was also one of the most terrifying experiences also as I was afraid I would make a mistake). I enjoyed the lectures, the essays, the workbooks, the folders and the exams – in short I enjoyed the whole experience. This all would not have been possible without the love and support of the Greensprings community, close family friends, my family and my wonderful husband (who was at times my net and also my racket). Special thanks to Mrs Koiki for starting GMC, without her vision the whole experience would never have been possible.

Knowledge as we all know is the familiarity, awareness or understanding of something such as facts, information, descriptions, or skills, which is acquired through experience or education by perceiving, discovering or learning. My experience at Greensprings Montessori Center is beyond developing skills as a teacher but a lifelong experience which has transformed and totally produced a better, wiser, more effective well trained Montessorian. Greensprings Montessori Center is an embodiment of experienced and well trained Montessorian who are always willing to go the extra mile and willfully share their knowledge with others. Thanks to all other colleagues and especially all the lecturers who has made this possible. Today I can gladly say I am a great Montessorian!

I had an immeasurable experience during this program as everything exceeded my expectations. The opportunity of being exposed to hands-on activities as student and not as teacher, modules for preparing my folders in the five Montessori curriculum areas and the guidance from the faculty members contributed to this positive experience at Greensprings Montessori Centre. The program was very helpful. It assisted me in developing more understanding of the Montessori Method as well as the knowledge in Child psychology and development provided me with more ideas and activities that will help children develop more cognitive, motor control, social, language, practical life and sensory skills. I also learnt how to extend those activities further according to children’s individual needs and interests. I found great pleasure working with the children as they grow into happy, secure and independent individuals. I am proud to be an Ambassador for Greensprings Montessori Center.

My experience at GMC was informative. In spite of the fact that I had undergone an online training; it was a different ball game all together. The opportunity of having a one-on-one teacher, ability to ask questions, was a good experience for me. I gained a lot in the area of having to see the presentation of some Montessori materials that I was not too confident working with especially in the Mathematics curriculum. The faculty members did their best to ensure our experience was one to write home about. They gave their all in terms of time and knowledge. They were friendly, firm and fair till the end. I would not say it was easy all the way; I almost gave up when the exam timetable came out. It was not easy coping with work, house chores and reading at the end of every day. The books to cover were just too voluminous. Thank God for the faculty members who kept encouraging and pushing me till I got to the end. I am grateful to God for enabling me get to a beautiful end.

It’s been a very long ride and am glad it’s finally over. The GMC’s Early Childhood Diploma Course has helped me develop a high degree of self confidence and enthusiasm for guiding, preparing, organizing, teaching and learning. The program has also helped me learn how to learn and showed me how I can help a child to learn and achieve success in a Montessori environment. Many of the questions in the assignments encouraged independent thinking. I love being able to share my ideas and get feedback from my tutors on their merit. A big thank you to my great tutors, you are all awesome at being on top of things and making it possible for me to discover myself in terms of studying, preparing and writing my exams. I never believe I could achieve this as an adult learner. It’s my greatest pleasure to go through this wonderful program.

My experience on the Early Childhood Montessori course started like a forced journey. I wasn’t so keen on joining since I had done my online training and I had also gone through the 0-3 training at a Centre in Lagos. But as lectures started, I got more interested because of the way our lectures were delivered. I gained more knowledge about the Montessori Philosophy and material presentations. Assignments given got us all in the study mode as the quality of work expected was high. Best moment for me was exam time, knowing that I could have my weekends to myself again. The exams were tough but I believe I pulled through excellently. Kudos to the faculty members!

My experience at Greensprings Montessori Centre has been so educative and inspiring. I want to specially thank all the faculty members for their warmth and words of encouragement, which saw me through the school year. I have gained so much knowledge about the Montessori Method, philosophy and childhood education from GMC. Beyond the educational part of it, you taught me how to always believe in myself and know that I can achieve a lot as long as my mind is set on it knowing fully well that nothing good comes easy.
